Over 450 colleagues participate in Miles for Minds 2024

Once again through the month of March many of our colleagues in London have been participating in our fourth annual ASR Miles for Minds initiative – a fun challenge during the month of March to walk, run, cycle and swim to raise awareness for mental wellbeing and the positive role of physical exercise in helping achieve it.

Each year the number of participants and miles completed continues to grow. This year an impressive 464 employees from 24 different sites worldwide participated. Together, they covered a total of almost 18000 miles in four weeks. There were multiple half marathon attempts, and record distances run and cycled in a single week.

“With London’s growing Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) disincentivising car usage, many of the 2943 miles cycled in the UK during this month have been in cycling commutes through London. Almost 500 miles more than the London ASR cyclists rode last year. A mile completed by bike rather than car saves a typical 220 grams of CO2 emissions, this may not seem much, but everyone’s miles add up to 650kg of avoided emissions over the course of the challenge, helping make our air cleaner.” Tom Sutton, Continuous Improvement Manager and keen cyclist.

In one of the wettest Marchs in recent years, this is all the more impressive. Site infrastructure upgrades like the new bike shed approved at our Plaistow factory continue to support employees in making the switch to cycle to work.
