Thames Refinery Bike Storage Upgrades Facilitate Lower-Carbon Commutes
Our Thames Refinery in London completed a significant upgrade to its bicycle and motorbike storage facility as an employee benefit that will also help lower our commuter carbon footprint by encouraging eco-friendly commutes.
The cycling efforts of colleagues during recent ‘Miles for Minds’ initiatives, combined with an increasing number of employees choosing to commute to work via carbon-free or lower-carbon and health-enhancing modes of transport, reinforced the need to invest and improve the area. Tom Sutton, Continuous Improvement Manager.
Secure, covered hoops were installed for 30 bicycles, not only expanding the facility’s storage capacity, but also reducing weather damage and maintenance costs for all bike users. A gate lock upgrade and the installation of secondary locks on each enclosure help ensure employees can feel confident their bikes will be secure when they commute to work.
These enhancements complement our recent electric vehicle investments on site, for both employee cars and electric trucks, and our continued investment in decarbonisation solutions that also benefit employees.
