Eight goslings hatched at our Lyle’s Golden Syrup Factory
Earlier this year, an unexpected group of visitors made themselves at home at our Plaistow Wharf factory. A pair of Egyptian geese chose to nest above the iconic display can of Lyle’s Golden Syrup on the corner of the site.
Originally native to Africa, Egyptian geese are now a common sight across the UK. Recognisable by their cream and dark brown feathers and distinctive dark eye markings, they are known to travel inland to find suitable nesting spots and are nesting earlier in the year as winters become milder.

When eight goslings hatched, The Swan Sanctuary stepped in to help. The team safely rounded up the chicks and their parents before transporting them to their pond, where the family could continue to thrive.
We’re grateful to The Swan Sanctuary for ensuring the geese and their newly hatched chicks were relocated safely.
