The International Day of Forests has been celebrated in March each year since it was declared as such by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012. The occasion is marked by activities around the world aimed at raising awareness of the crucial role played by forests in sustaining the planet.

Fairtrade is a certification scheme which allows Tate & Lyle Sugars to sell Fairtrade certified sugar and generate value for the sugarcane farmers who participate in the scheme, working alongside farmers to ensure better livelihoods for themselves and their families.

The Progressive Sugar Cane Producers’ Association Environmental Challenge set a goal to continue rebuilding natural habitats and ecosystems; taking important steps towards mitigating the impact of climate change and promoting sustainable development.

In total, this led to 605 trees being planted.

The tree planting was carried out in the village or on school premises in San Roman, San Estevan, San Luis, San Pablo, San Pedro and Guinea Grass, and in addition, 350 trees were distributed to association members to plant on their farms.

The campaign ran from April 2022, to January 2023, and these efforts represent valuable seeds added to a global challenge of bequeathing a healthier planet to future generations.
